What do we mean with the words 'Flora Aurora' ?
First, this describes the area around the Family Leisure Complex on Industrial Parkway North where we are planting what will become masses of flowering trees and shrubs. There are 4 sections to the project. By mid-2011 we have over 50% of the planting in place. It will take a couple more years to complete the planting, assuming we can get the soil preparation done and paths layed out. Trees and shrubs need time to grow, and bloom. Flora Aurora should start looking pretty good by 2014 or 2015.
We planted the first part of Flora Aurora in 2007. That bed, mainly Lilac, near the Gazebo is making good progress. In Fall of 2007 we had the ground prepared for Phase 1 and in 2008 planted much of the stock as well as parts of Phase 4. In 2009 we added more stock to Phase 1.In 2010 the ground was prepared for Phase 2a and that was planted in May, 2011. We expect to complete preparation of Phase 2b and Phase 3 in 2011 for 2012 planting.
We see Flora Aurora becoming a feature attraction for the Aurora Community Arboretum and the Town of Aurora each Spring in the future. It will help make Aurora 'special' ... a destination for visitors each year.
