The Commemorative Tree Program
  This program achieves several goals.
For the Arboretum, it's really quite simple: we get to plant superior specimens of trees whose native habitat would be in a place such as the Arboretum. That helps us build the basic stock of the Arboretum faster than might otherwise be possible.
These trees, after a couple of years to grow and thrive, serve another important purpose. They enable individuals, or groups, or organizations, to commemorate something that is important to them. The trees may be used as memorials to loved ones we have lost, or they may be gifts of love for husbands, wives, parents who are still living. They may commemorate special events in our lives, the birth of children, special birthdays, marriage. They may  recognize achievement by individuals or groups, or by an organization to recognize the accomplishment of individuals. The opportunities are endless.
If you think a Commemorative Tree in the Aurora Community Arboretum would help you leave a legacy, talk to us. It'll help us create a better Arboretum, and that's good for our town and all its citizens.

The standard tree we plant is a 50 mm 'caliper' tree. That means it is big enough to have a good chance of survival in the Arboretum. We provide maintenance for the tree and protection for it in its first few winters. We want it to thrive so we choose an appropriate location and soil for the specimen. After a couple of years of growth it becomes available as a Commemorative tree.

The tree costs $500. This pays for the original purchase costs and maintenance plus  an outdoor lamacoid dedication plaque, mounted above the snow line on an iron post. And some of the money goes to our account for the purchase of additional trees, and maybe they too will become Commemorative trees in the future. Donors are granted 'Friend of the Arboretum' status until the end of the calendar year following the donation.

Specimen shrubs and bushes cost $150.
A specimen marker is placed  at the bush/shrub but there is no donor identification. 'Friend of the Arboretum' status is granted until the end of the calendar year following the donation.

Charitable receipts can be issued for purchase of trees and shrubs.
